Maximilian Pohland 


Maximilian Pohland holds a Master of Science (M. Sc.) in chemistry. For his Ph. D. he is developing and testing new potential drugs against Alzheimer’s disease in the nutritional neuroscience study group in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Manfred Schubert-Zsilavecz, Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Goethe - Universitiy of Frankfurt. The new compounds have in addition to their dual mechanism of action as PPARγ and γ-secretase modulators positive effects on mitochondrial function. He is doing research with the help of several in vitro and in vivo methods, using cell culture and mouse models of aging.

Methods: measurement of mitochondrial membrane potential, ATP levels, Aβ ELISA, markers of mitochondrial mass; High-Resolution Respirometry (Oxygraph-2k); western blotting.
